1. We visited an art galary 2 times!!Fatima's POV (Point of View) The Rijksmuseum This museum is one of the most famous museum here in Amsterdam with works from artists such as Rembrant van Rijn and Vincent van Gogh. The tickets for this museum are free for minors so Irma and I could easily go to this museum, the only costs we had to pay were public transport. In this case the metro and tram. The first thing i noticed when we got there is the old, castle-like aesthetic the aura of this museum was giving us. As for the art, the art gave me renaissance vibes mixed with the golden age of the Netherlands vibes. The paintings are mostly made by oil paint. Before machines were made, people had to make clothes by hand, that is why we are making bags from old/second hand clothes BY, OURSELVES. This is going to be a disaster, but it will be a fun experience for sure! But here's Irma's experience of our trips to the Rijksmuseum! And enjoy these beautiful pictures we took while we were there. Irma's POV Rijksmuseum On our way to the museum, I was thinking of the painting I’ve always wanted to see in real life: The Night Watch. People told me that it is a very detailed painting, and looks very realistic: almost like they were walking. When we arrived, the first thing that surprised me was how big the building was. I know museums are big, but this was huge in comparison to other museums I’ve been to. When I saw The Night Watch, I thought the people in there were walking for a second, and the details immediately caught my eye. The thin, golden stripes on their clothes were very beautiful. The painting was way bigger and darker than I expected. Around 3 to 4 metres. I read somewhere that it is not nighttime in The Night Watch. A varnish turned it dark with age and dirt. After that, we went to different parts of the museum to visit other galleries. Not only paintings, but drawings, weapons, a ship, a piano, sculptures and even a dollhouse were also there. I really wanted to play the piano, but I knew very well that I was not allowed to touch anything. We kept walking around. What really caught my attention were a fancy bed and a dollhouse. I did not expect those two in a museum. We continued walking and arrived in a room where ships were the main focus. Drawings hung on the walls. I got a closer look and saw all the details in the ships and the ocean. It looked very calm. This drawing reminded me of Colombus’s search for India by taking a different route. Next to the drawings were weapons. Guns, swords, knives, bows and 2 small bags. I am curious what the purpose was of those small bags. We went to the next room, which was a huge library. There were so many books. Some of them were impossible to reach, unless you would take a ladder. I was thinking: do the people there even read all the books? We kept exploring, and we found a painting with a large swan in it. A woman who was looking at it had the exact same painting on the back of her shirt. What a coincidence. I saw another bed, which was in a glass box. The bed looked even more fancier than the previous one. It had curtains and looked like a bed for a princess. I would love to have one. We went to the next room and the first thing I noticed were the spears; all nicely placed next to eachother, like they were coming out of something. I looked to my right and saw cannons. People must have used it to attack eachother during sea battle. Our exploring time was almost done. It was a bummer for me, though. Before we left, I wanted to look for at least 1 painting made by one of my favourite artists: Vincent van Gogh. After a few minutes, I had found 3 of them. One was a self portrait, the second one was a painting of a man and the third one was nature. I liked the self portrait the most. I was glad I could find one. Overall, the trip was very interesting. It was a lot of fun to look at the paintings and the stories behind them. The weapons and drawings were very interesting to look at too. There were a few rooms I haven’t visited. Maybe I will visit them next time. Anyways, I really recommend going to this museum. You will certainly not regret it. |
2.Homemade bags!We decided to make homemade bags with old t-shirts! Here are our begin product. With ecological creativity, we wanted to show you that you can make things from products that you already have instead of throwing it away. That is a huge waste. for example an old t-shirt. You can make a bag out of that! And this is how we did it!
|
What does the end product look like?
The process in making those bags were easy. You simply cut the collar and cut the sleeves into handles. Then, you cut the end of the shirt in strokes. When you’re done, you tie the strokes together like braids to secure the bottem part of your homemade bags, you don’t want your stuff falling on the floor right? And you’re done! If you like, you can decorate your bag even more like sew on patches, but that is optional. Enjoy your new homemade ecological bag!

Evaluation
Irma:
What I have learned is that when you visit an art gallery, you don't always have to know what the paintings are visually representing, but it is also interesting to know the backstory of the painting, and sometimes, the painter him/herself.
I was very fun to make the bag. I learned the steps to do it, and it was very interesting. I have never made a bag in my life. It turned out a bit weird, but it was definitely worth a try. We got this idea thanks to Miss Scheltema.
Fatima:
This project was definetly fun, I love how we communicated with foreigners and how they also made a similair website to ours.
The Rijksmuseum visit was also fun because the museum is located in the centre of Amsterdam, where you can get lost and distracted easily. It was difficult to find it, but because of our dear friend: Google Maps, we managed to find it. It was quite an adventure.
Also, making the bags with nothing in mind was fun, because i knew nothing about recycling, so this project made me learn more about teamwork and communication skills. :)
